DEFINITION
A report can be spoken or can be written in the shape of a document or a presentation or a graph in which information about an occurance or about a project is narrated or is presented in an organized format for a target audience and for a specific purpose.

WHY
A report helps in communicating, sharing information, findings or status with team members and stakeholders, and thus helps in decision making and also in problem solving. Transparency and accuracy are keys to writing a useful report. A report presents facts and information specifically to a specific audience, in a formal and crisp manner, and does not provide opinions as it is casually done in essays. Instead of opinions, the report may provide inferences and recommendations with solid analysis, pictures, charts, tables and data.

HOW
There are a variety of reports required to be produced at work, such as sales report, daily report, weekly report, monthly report, quarterly report, status report, progress report, budget report and business data analysis report etc. In Project Management, the Progress report or status report can be prepared daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, interim or yearly, depending on how frequently the management would like to be updated about the status of a project.

PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT
Contents of a Project Progress report are normally arranged as follows;
  1. Project Information
  2. Project information may include the Project Title, Contract No., Budget No., Project Start Date, Project Completion Date, Duration, Time elapsed, Time remaining, Data Date, Location/ Zone/ Region, Phase/ Stage, Project Manager's Name, Report writer's Name etc.
  3. Brief Scope of Work
  4. Brief Scope of Work provides information about salient features of the scope, such as Design, Constrution of Treatment Plant, Storage, pump rooms, utilities and infrastructure.

  6. Qulity
  7. Environment
  8. Progress Summary
  9. Milestones Chart (Progress Details, Planned vs Actual)
  10. Studies & Design (Progress Details, Planned vs Actual)
